# SCRIPT FLUSH

> Clear the script cache.

Use `SCRIPT FLUSH` to remove every script from the server's script cache.

After the flush, [`EVALSHA`](/docs/redis/commands/scripting/evalsha) calls fail with `NOSCRIPT` until the scripts are loaded again, so run it when you want clients to resend their current script bodies, typically after deploying changed scripts. `ASYNC` reclaims the memory in the background and `SYNC` reclaims it before the reply. Cached scripts are not part of the dataset, so flushing them does not touch your data.

## Syntax

```redis theme={"system"}
SCRIPT FLUSH [ASYNC | SYNC]
```

## Arguments

| Argument | Required | Repeatable | Description |
| - | - | - | - |
| `(ASYNC \| SYNC)` | No | No | Choose one form: `ASYNC` (request asynchronous cleanup); `SYNC` (request synchronous cleanup). |

## Response

The reply reports the result of the operation. Error replies have the same shape in RESP2 and RESP3 and are surfaced as exceptions by the SDKs below.

| Protocol | Reply |
| - | - |
| RESP2 | Simple string `OK` |
| RESP3 | Simple string `OK` |

> [!NOTE]
>
> Client libraries often decode bulk strings, maps, sets, and numeric strings into language-native values. The table describes the Redis wire reply.

## Examples

TCP examples use the TLS `REDIS_URL` from the Upstash console. REST examples use `UPSTASH_REDIS_REST_URL` and `UPSTASH_REDIS_REST_TOKEN`.
